Urgent need to bring in
quality theatre for young audiences
After years of planning we launched ‘the little festival’ in June 2010
- an international theatre festival for young audiences - with productions
by adults for a young audience from different countries. With one production by children for children.....
The second edition: July 1 - 9, 2011
Our festival partners - Max Mueller Bhavan & InKo Centre -
are bringing in productions again for ‘the little festival’.
The Little Theatre is producing an original musical too!
The festival will be curated and the theme we are looking at for this year is “Moving…” This can be rhythmic movement in dance or music which will also have a flavour of the country from which the production originates.
On April 15, 2011 we launched competitions for children in three categories in all the city schools emphasizing the theme. The closing date for the competitions has been extended to June 25, 2011. The results of these Competitions will be announced during the festival. We also hope to display some of the top entries in all three categories at the Museum Theatre.
Special workshop on movement July 3rd to 5th
Panel Discussion on July 8 (7pm)
Watch out for these dates!
The Festival dates for this year are July 1 - 9, 2011 at the Museum Theatre, Egmore.

Heungbu Nolbu by InKo Centre-Theatre Seoul
July 7 (7pm) July 8 (11am)
“This is a universal story that speaks, through song and movement, of the power of love, the value of family and of our ability to individually and collectively make this world a better place to live in…”
Heungbu Nolbu is InKo Centre’s first co-commissioned Indo-Korean Children's Theatre production which brings together 17 children from Chennai and Seoul and an artistic team drawn from Korea and India. This production co-commissioned with Theatre Seoul opened to critical acclaim at the Uijeongbu Arts Center in Korea on June 9, 2011. The show will premiere in India at the little festival in Chennai on July 7, 2011.
The Story
Heungbu – Nolbu is the story of two brothers. One good and kind and willing to share what he has. The other is his opposite: mean minded and miserly. They are watched over by goblins that find the mean minded brother’s behavior completely despicable and decide to punish him, but at the same time reward the kind hearted brother. How they manage to do this forms the crux of the story. The play is based on a Korean folk tale which echoes in every culture. It was chosen for its universal theme and its message of cooperation and goodwill. This is the spirit in which this collaborative production was born. One team worked in Seoul while the other worked in Chennai. It was put together in Seoul for the first series of shows in Seoul followed by shows in Chennai and Bangalore…
